Shoreham has had a proper town centre since the Normans laid it out, and the businesses along it need a website that keeps up with how people search now. Page Forge builds Shoreham businesses a fast, credible site that turns a local Google search into an enquiry, on the phone people are actually holding. Everything included, live in about a week, from £99.

We are a short drive north in Hassocks, so the run down the Adur valley into Shoreham is a familiar one. The town has a strong independent streak, from the shops and cafes in the old centre to the trades, makers and studios around the harbour and out on Shoreham Beach. Those businesses live on being found quickly and looking the part. A slow website, or none at all, quietly sends that work to a competitor in Worthing or Brighton who ranked above you, and speed is a big part of that: a page that takes several seconds to load on a phone loses people before they ever see it.

You do not need to understand any of the technical side. Tell us what you do and where you cover, and we handle the design, the words, your .co.uk domain, the hosting, the SSL and the updates afterwards. We build for businesses right across the Adur district, so you deal with one person who picks up the phone. If you are in a trade, our websites for tradespeople are set up around the searches your customers make, and every site we build is fast on a phone as standard, not as an afterthought.

A working port town that has always traded on the map

Shoreham-by-Sea is a coastal town and port in the Adur district of West Sussex, covering about 2,430 acres with a population of a little over 20,000. It sits almost exactly halfway between Brighton and Hove to the east and Worthing to the west, hemmed in by the South Downs to the north, the Adur valley to the west, and the river and Shoreham Beach on the Channel to the south. That position, in the middle of the coastal ribbon of towns, has shaped it for the better part of a thousand years.

New Shoreham was founded by the Normans at the end of the 11th century, and St Mary de Haura Church, the church of St Mary of the Haven, was built in the decade after 1103. The grid of streets laid out around it then still, in essence, forms the town centre today. Older Shoreham, inland by the river, has St Nicolas’ Church, partly Anglo-Saxon in construction. Shoreham held status as a Royal Port, and a 12th-century Arab geographer, writing around 1153, described it as a fine and cultivated town full of flourishing activity.

The town’s modern shape came with the railway in 1840, which turned Shoreham into a busy Victorian sea port with several shipyards and an active coasting trade, and it became an urban district in 1910 with its own town hall. Shoreham Harbour is still working commercially today. Shoreham Beach, the shingle spit to the south, was fixed in place by 1816 and defended by Shoreham Fort, built in 1857; in the early 20th century it hosted Bungalow Town and a slice of the early British film industry, with the Sunny South Film Company making its first movie there in 1912. The converted-barge houseboats on the Adur mud flats are a landmark in their own right.

Just to the west, at Shoreham Airport, sits the oldest continually operated airport in the world, which served as an RAF base in the Second World War, while to the east the old cluster of Kingston Buci still has its medieval church, manor and huge barn. For a local business, all of this is useful rather than decorative. It is the specific, sourced detail that makes a website read as genuinely from Shoreham rather than copy that could sit on any coastal town’s site, and Google increasingly favours pages that clearly belong to a place. We write your site to sound like it comes from here, name the right neighbours, and set your Google Business Profile up to match how customers actually search.

Common questions

Do you build websites for businesses in Shoreham-by-Sea?
Yes. We are based a short drive away in Hassocks and build for businesses right across the Adur district, Shoreham included. You get a local designer who knows the town, from the old centre and the harbour to the beach and the airport, not a distant agency. Most of it is handled by phone, email and video, with a visit when it helps.
How much does a website cost in Shoreham?
A standard site is a £99 one-off setup plus £29 a month, or £299 a year paid annually. That covers the website, your .co.uk domain, UK hosting, SSL and six content updates a year. Bigger or multi-page projects, and online shops, are quoted to match, so you only pay for what your business needs.
How quickly can my Shoreham website go live?
Most sites are live within about five working days. You tell us about the business and send your details, we design, write and build everything, and it publishes once you have approved it. We handle the writing and the technical setup, so it takes very little of your time.
Can you make the site load fast on a phone by the harbour or the beach?
Yes, that is a core part of how we build. Our sites are one fast-loading page that works cleanly on any phone, which matters when a customer is out along the seafront or the harbour and wants to find you and call in a couple of taps. A quick page also tends to do better in Google than a slow, heavy one.
I trade across Shoreham, Southwick and Lancing. Will the site cover all three?
It can. The three run together along the coast, so we set your wording and your Google Business Profile up to reflect the whole area you actually work rather than a single postcode, which is usually how your customers search anyway. That keeps you visible right across the Adur district.
