The simple WordPress alternative for small businesses.

A WordPress alternative, for most small businesses, is simply a site that does not need plugins, security patches or a developer on speed-dial. WordPress still powers a huge chunk of the web, but that does not make it the right tool for a plumber, a bakery or a one-person firm. You pay hundreds or thousands to have it built, then you are left with a slow page, a pile of add-ons to keep updated, and a fresh bill every time something breaks. It is a lot of hassle for a business that just needs to be found and contacted.

Page Forge is the simpler way. We hand-build your site so it loads fast and ranks well, with no plugins, no theme bloat and nothing for you to maintain. We host it, secure it and update it for you, and there is a real person in Sussex to call. One clear price, everything included, live in about five working days. If you already have a WordPress site, we rebuild it properly and keep your domain, your email and your Google ranking. See moving off WordPress for how that switch works.

WordPress is a content management system. That is useful if you publish dozens of pages a week or run a shop with hundreds of products. It is overkill if your site is who you are, what you do, where you work and how to get in touch. The extra machinery (themes, plugins, PHP updates, hosting that is separate from the builder) is exactly what makes small-business WordPress sites slow, expensive and easy to hack. A hand-coded page has none of that. Google rewards the speed. ChatGPT and Gemini can read a clear, factual page far more easily than a plugin-heavy theme.

We have done this for real. C4C Group moved off a limiting WordPress build onto a fast Astro site, which then made custom tools possible that WordPress could not handle. Most of our local clients do not need custom tools. They need a site that loads, ranks and gets the phone to ring. That is the job.
