Generative Engine Optimisation, or GEO, is the work of getting your business quoted by AI assistants like ChatGPT, Gemini and Claude. When someone asks “who is a good electrician near Hassocks?”, the assistant names two or three businesses. That shortlist is the new front page of Google. If your site is not readable to those models, you are not in the running. GEO is how a small business gets onto that shortlist, from £99, with no monthly lock-in.

GEO is not SEO with a new badge. Search engines still rank pages. Assistants summarise and recommend. They favour clear, factual, answer-first content, structured data they can parse, and question-and-answer pairs they can lift directly. We restructure your content that way, add the machine-readable markup, publish an llms.txt summary, and make sure AI crawlers are actually allowed in. Most sites silently block GPTBot, ClaudeBot or Perplexity in robots.txt without noticing.

It is early, which is exactly why it is worth doing. Almost no local competitor in Sussex is doing this yet. The businesses that get quoted now become the default answer later, in the same way the first decent websites in a town became the names people remembered on Google. We did the work on pageforge.co.uk first: schema, FAQ pairs, an llms.txt file and an open door for crawlers. You are reading a site that was built to be citable, which is the point.

GEO and SEO work best together. A fast, well-structured page helps Google and it helps ChatGPT. If you already have a site, we can do this work on it. If you want a new site as well, the GEO setup is part of how we write it. See local SEO if ranking on Google is still the main gap, or start here if people you speak to are already asking an assistant instead.

Schema Google and AI both read

LocalBusiness, FAQPage and service markup, so machines know who you are, where you work and what you charge, without scraping a mess of divs.

description

An llms.txt summary

A short, factual file at the root of your site that tells crawlers the essentials: name, trade, area, contact. Most businesses have never heard of it.

Crawlers actually allowed in

We check robots.txt for GPTBot, Google-Extended, ClaudeBot, PerplexityBot and the rest. Blocking them by accident is the most common reason a good business never gets named.

Common questions

What is GEO (Generative Engine Optimisation)?
GEO is optimising your website so AI assistants like ChatGPT, Gemini and Claude recommend your business when someone asks them for one. Where SEO aims at a list of blue links, GEO aims at being the answer the assistant actually reads out.
Is AI optimisation worth it for a small business?
Increasingly, yes. A growing share of people now ask an assistant for a recommendation rather than scrolling Google, and those assistants name only two or three businesses. Being one of them is worth far more than tenth place on Google. Right now, almost no local competitor is doing this.
How is GEO different from SEO?
SEO gets you ranked. GEO gets you quoted. They overlap, because both reward fast, clear, well-structured pages, but assistants specifically favour answer-first writing, question-and-answer pairs and machine-readable data. Most sites have none of that. The two work best together.
How do I get ChatGPT to recommend my business?
Make the facts easy to lift. State what you do, where you work and how to contact you in plain sentences. Add FAQ pairs. Add schema. Publish a short llms.txt file. Allow the AI crawlers in robots.txt. Then be patient: models refresh on their own timetable. We do that checklist for you, from £99.
Can you prove it works?
You are on the proof. We did this work on pageforge.co.uk first: structured data, FAQ pairs, an llms.txt summary and an open door for AI crawlers. We will do the same for your business, and show you what changed in plain English. You can also run our free AI visibility checker on your current site.
Do I need a new website, or can you do GEO on the one I have?
We can do it on an existing site, including Wix, Squarespace and WordPress, as long as we can change the copy, the markup and robots.txt. If the current site is too slow or too locked down, a rebuild is cleaner. We will say which, rather than sell you both by default.
How much does GEO cost?
From £99 as a one-off. No monthly retainer. If the site also needs a proper rebuild, that is the usual website price of £99 setup plus £29 a month, and the GEO work sits on top of that.
