Steyning is a handsome old West Sussex town under the Downs, and customers here expect a business to look the part before they call. Page Forge builds Steyning businesses fast, professional websites without the agency price tag. We’re a short drive east in Hassocks, working the same run of Sussex, so this is ground we know. Everything included, live in about a week, from £99.

It is a town of independents, with a High Street of shops, cafes and long-established local businesses, plus the trades working across Steyning, Bramber and Upper Beeding and out to the surrounding villages. That reputation for quality sets the bar, and online is where it now gets tested first. For a shop, a tradesperson, a therapist or a professional working from home, a clean, quick site that reads as genuinely local is most of the battle. A slow or missing website hands that customer to a competitor towards Shoreham or Worthing who simply appeared first.

You do not need to understand any of the technical side. Tell us what you do and the area you cover, and we design it, write it, sort your .co.uk domain and hosting, and keep it running afterwards. We build for businesses right across Sussex, including trades like Phoenix Piling, so you get someone local who picks up the phone rather than a call centre.

A Saxon town at the gap in the Downs

Steyning is a town and civil parish in the Horsham district of West Sussex, sitting at the north end of the gap the River Adur cuts through the South Downs, about four miles north of the coast at Shoreham-by-Sea. Together with the smaller villages of Bramber and Upper Beeding it forms a single built-up area at this crossing point of the river, so in practice the three places share a customer base. That position at the foot of the Downs, on the way to the coast, gives local businesses a steady mix of residents, walkers and passing trade.

The town is genuinely ancient. The name probably comes from the Old English for the stone people, or the dwellers at the stony place, and Steyning has existed since Anglo-Saxon times. Legend says St Cuthman built a church here where he stopped after carrying his mother in a wheelbarrow, an image that still appears on the signs as you enter the town. In 858 Æthelwulf, King of Wessex and father of Alfred the Great, was buried in the church, and a carved Saxon grave slab still sits in the church porch. The church is now dedicated jointly to St Andrew and St Cuthman.

By the time of the Domesday survey Steyning was a thriving and important port with a market and even a royal mint. Its strategic value led William the Conqueror to place William de Braose in a new castle at neighbouring Bramber, which sparked a long dispute over bridge tolls on the river and the rights of the two churches, settled in the king’s court in 1086. All of that history is still visible in the old buildings and the shape of the town, and it is part of why Steyning feels distinct rather than like just another commuter settlement.

For a local business, that specific, true detail is what makes a website read as genuinely from Steyning rather than generic copy that could be about anywhere. Google increasingly favours content that clearly belongs to a place, and customers trust it more too. We write your site so it sounds like it comes from the town, name Bramber, Upper Beeding and the villages you also cover, build it to load fast on a phone, and set up your Google Business Profile so you appear when someone nearby searches for what you do.

Also covering: Bramber, Upper Beeding, Ashurst, Wiston, Washington, Storrington and the surrounding villages.

Three steps. That’s it.

No jargon, no committees, no six-week timelines. We get Steyning businesses online fast.

Common questions

Do you build websites for businesses in Steyning?
Yes. We’re based a short drive east in Hassocks and build for businesses right across Sussex, Steyning, Bramber and Upper Beeding included. You get a local designer who knows the town, not a distant agency.
How much does a website cost in Steyning?
A standard site is a £99 one-off setup plus £29 a month, or £299 a year if you pay annually. That covers the website, your .co.uk domain, UK hosting, SSL and six content updates a year, with nothing hidden. Larger projects are quoted to match.
How quickly can my Steyning website go live?
Most sites are live within about five working days. You tell us about your business and send your details, then we design, write and build everything and publish once you’re happy with it.
Should my site cover Bramber and Upper Beeding as well?
Usually yes. Steyning, Bramber and Upper Beeding run together as one built-up area, so your customers come from all three and the villages around them. We build your site to name the places you actually serve so you get found across the whole patch.
I run an independent shop on the High Street. Is a website worth it?
Yes. Passing trade matters in Steyning, but people look you up online before they visit and after a recommendation. A fast site showing your opening hours, what you offer and where to find you turns that curiosity into a visit or a call.
