Woking is a proper town of its own, around twenty-three miles from London in north-west Surrey, with a borough population of about 103,900 spread across roughly twenty-five square miles. The main built-up area runs from Knaphill in the west to Byfleet in the east, with villages like Pyrford, Old Woking and Brookwood keeping their own identities around the edges. Around sixty per cent of the borough is Green Belt, and there are six Sites of Special Scientific Interest within its boundaries, so competition for local trade tends to be tight and customers there almost always look online before they pick up the phone.
You don’t need to know anything technical. Tell us what you do and where you work; we handle the design, the words, your .co.uk domain and hosting, then keep it ticking over. If you’ve seen the sort of work we did for a specialist ground-works firm, you know we build clear, credible sites that suit real trades.
On Your Doorstep
Woking is younger than it looks. The area had the least populated, sandiest soils in Surrey back in 1086, and the modern town only really began in the mid-1860s, when the London Necropolis Company started selling off surplus land around the railway station. Older history survives at the edges: the ruins of Woking Palace, once a royal residence of Henry VII and Henry VIII; St Peter’s Church in Old Woking, parts of which date from the reign of William I; and the Shah Jahan Mosque, built in 1889 and the first purpose-built mosque in Britain. Nearby Sutton Place, built for Richard Weston in about 1525, is reckoned one of the earliest unfortified houses in England, and the town also grew up alongside older transport links like the Wey Navigation and the Basingstoke Canal.
There’s a literary claim to fame too. H. G. Wells lived on Maybury Road and wrote The War of the Worlds while he was there, setting much of the novel in and around Woking, which is why you’ll find a martian sculpture in the town centre. None of this sells a website on its own, but it is the specific, true local detail that makes a site read as though it genuinely belongs to Woking rather than to any town in the country. Google favours content clearly tied to a real place, so we write yours to sound like the town, name the neighbourhoods your customers come from, and set up your Google Business Profile to match so you appear when they search.
