Farnham is a market town at the western end of the North Downs, close to the Hampshire border and about thirty-six miles south-west of London. It has real trading history, a corn market once said to be the second largest in England after London, and centuries of hops, brewing and pottery behind it. The civil parish, which takes in Badshot Lea, Hale and Wrecclesham, had a population of just under forty thousand at the 2011 census. Today it is a town of independents and creative businesses, the sort that live and die on looking credible online, because their customers research first and judge quickly.
You don’t need to know anything technical. Tell us what you do and where you work; we design the site, write the words, sort your .co.uk domain and hosting, and keep it running afterwards. If you’ve seen what we did for a local bakery, you know the kind of clean, welcoming site we make for independents.
On Your Doorstep
Farnham grew up on the north branch of the River Wey and was under the control of the Bishops of Winchester from at least the year 803. Farnham Castle was built as a bishop’s residence for Henry de Blois in 1138, and Henry VIII is known to have lived there at sixteen. In the late medieval period the town made kersey, a coarse woollen cloth, and from around 1600 into the 1970s the surrounding area was a centre for growing hops and for brewing. The railway arrived in 1849 and the army settled nearby at Aldershot in 1855, and the town grew from there.
Farnham has long been tied to the creative arts, and pottery in particular, and it is home to one of the campuses of the University for the Creative Arts. The chalk ridge of the Hog’s Back runs east of the town, the ruins of Waverley Abbey lie just outside it, and the Museum of Farnham is housed in the elegant eighteenth-century Willmer House. The town has produced its share of names too, from the radical writer William Cobbett to the England rugby captain Jonny Wilkinson. None of this is trivia for its own sake: it is the specific, true detail that makes a website read as if it genuinely belongs to Farnham, and Google increasingly rewards content clearly tied to a real place. We write your site to sound like the town, then set up your Google Business Profile to match so you appear when local customers search for what you do.
