East Grinstead sits where three counties meet, so its customers come from Sussex, Surrey and Kent. We target all of it, not just the town. From £99.
East Grinstead has an unusual problem for SEO, and it is a good one. It sits right where West Sussex, East Sussex, Surrey and Kent almost meet, so its customers do not all come from one county. A business here can draw work from three directions at once, but only if its website and its Google presence are set up to be found across all of them. We build East Grinstead sites to target more than one county, one clear price from £99, no monthly retainer.
Most local SEO assumes a single town. A border town needs more. Someone searching from Lingfield or Forest Row or Felbridge is in a different direction, sometimes a different county, from someone in the town centre, yet they might all be your customers. We research the terms used across that whole border area, write them naturally into your pages, add the structured data Google reads, and set your Google Business Profile up to serve the real radius you work, not just the postcode you sit in.
We work across the border area from our base in Hassocks. It is the same work that put this site on the map for its own terms. For the wider county, see our SEO across West Sussex.
On Your Doorstep
East Grinstead is in the north-east corner of West Sussex, near the East Sussex, Surrey and Kent borders, about twenty-seven miles south of London and twenty-one north of Brighton. It is contiguous with the village of Felbridge to the north-west and close to Crawley and Horley to the west and Tunbridge Wells to the east. Oddly, it was in East Sussex until 1974, when it joined Haywards Heath and Burgess Hill in the Mid Sussex district of West Sussex. The Greenwich Meridian runs right through the town, through the grounds of the historic East Court mansion.
The town has real heritage to lean on. Its High Street holds one of the longest continuous runs of 14th-century timber-framed buildings in England, and Sackville College, the sandstone almshouse where the carol “Good King Wenceslas” was written, dates from 1609. On the outskirts stands Standen, a National Trust house with one of the best collections of Arts and Crafts furnishings anywhere, and nearby Hammerwood Park was built by Benjamin Latrobe and once owned by Led Zeppelin. During the Second World War the Queen Victoria Hospital became world-famous for its pioneering burns and reconstructive surgery under Archibald McIndoe, and for the Guinea Pig Club formed by his patients. That history gives local businesses genuine, specific detail to write into a site, the kind Google increasingly rewards over generic copy.
The border position is the SEO headline, though. Ashdown Forest and the Weald sit to the south-east, Surrey begins just up the road, and Kent is not far east. A tradesperson or a shop here will happily take work from all three counties, so the whole strategy is about targeting a multi-county radius rather than pretending the customer base stops at the town sign.
For an East Grinstead business, “local” genuinely spans county lines. Customers search from Forest Row, Ashurst Wood and Felbridge nearby, then Lingfield and Dormansland over in Surrey and back towards Crawley and Copthorne. If you serve that spread, your site needs to say so. See web design in East Grinstead or our West Sussex SEO page.
