hubFractional IT Director · UK-wide from Sussex

A fractional IT director, without the full-time salary.

Senior IT leadership for growing businesses: your roadmap, budget, security and suppliers, handled by someone with over twenty years in IT. Advisory only, never a helpdesk. From £325 a quarter.

A fractional IT director is a senior IT leader who works for your business part-time, for a set block of time each month or quarter. Most growing businesses reach a point where technology decisions are costing real money, but nobody qualified owns them. The owner decides between customer calls, the IT support company is asked to be a strategist as well as a fixer, and licences, tools and risks pile up quietly. A fractional IT director gives you the thinking of a full-time IT director, on a schedule and budget that fits a business your size.

I have spent over twenty years in IT, and I also run C4C Group, a technology consultancy working with large organisations on infrastructure, security and buying decisions. Page Forge brings that same experience to smaller firms, scaled to what you actually need. You get a half-day of focused strategy each month or quarter, a roadmap that stays current, and someone independent on your side when suppliers are quoting or a big decision is due.

This is deliberately not an IT support contract. There is no helpdesk, no per-user monthly fee and no lock-in. I make sure the right decisions get made and the right people carry them out, and if you need day-to-day support I will point you to a good provider and keep an eye on them for you. For one-off pieces of work, such as a Microsoft 365 migration or a security review, see IT & AI consulting.

The IT director’s job, done part-time

The same responsibilities a full-time IT director would own, sized to your business.

map

An IT roadmap you can actually follow

Where your technology is now, where it needs to be in twelve to eighteen months, and the order to get there in. Written in plain English, costed, and kept current at every session, so IT decisions stop being made in a panic when something breaks.

savings

A budget that stops the leaks

Most growing firms pay for licences nobody uses, overlapping tools and contracts that auto-renewed years ago. I review what you are paying for, cut what you do not need and plan the spend you do need, so the IT budget becomes a decision rather than a surprise.

shield_lock

Security that fits the size of the risk

Multi-factor authentication, sensible access, backups you have actually tested, and a plan for when a laptop goes missing or a supplier is breached. The right controls for a business your size, and preparation for Cyber Essentials if your customers or contracts ask for it.

handshake

Someone on your side with suppliers

If you already have an IT provider, I sit above them as your advocate: checking what they deliver against what you pay for, asking the awkward questions and translating their answers. The same goes for software vendors, telecoms and anyone quoting you for a big project.

auto_awesome

Straight answers on AI and new tools

Which AI tools are worth paying for, which are a data risk, and how to use them without leaking client information. I help you pick the few that will genuinely save time and set sensible rules around them, rather than chasing every new launch.

summarize

Plain-English reporting for the owners

Every session ends with a short written summary: what we decided, what it costs, who is doing what and by when. Directors and owners get a clear picture of their IT without needing to speak the language, and nothing important lives only in one person’s head.

Signs you need a fractional IT director

More on IT leadership

Common questions

Straight answers on what a fractional IT director does, and where the line is.

What is a fractional IT director?
A fractional IT director is a senior IT leader who works for your business part-time, for a set block of time each month or quarter. You get the strategic thinking of a full-time IT director (roadmap, budget, security and suppliers) for a fraction of the cost, because you only pay for the time your business actually needs. It is sometimes called a virtual or part-time IT director, or a fractional CIO.
How is this different from an IT support company or MSP?
An IT support company, or managed service provider, fixes things: password resets, broken laptops, the helpdesk. A fractional IT director decides things: what to buy, what to stop paying for, how secure you need to be and whether your support provider is doing a good job. This service is advisory only, with no helpdesk and no SLAs. If you need day-to-day support, I will point you to a good provider and keep an eye on them for you.
How much does a fractional IT director cost?
Quarterly sessions start from £325 a quarter, and monthly sessions from £395 a month. Both include a half-day strategy session, a roadmap kept up to date and a written summary, and the monthly option adds supplier oversight and access between sessions. That is a small fraction of the cost of hiring a full-time IT director, and there is no long-term lock-in.
What size of business is it for?
It most often makes sense for businesses of roughly five to thirty people with no in-house IT lead, though larger firms without an IT director use it too. Below about five people, a single fixed-price project is usually enough. If you are unsure, a free intro call will tell us quickly whether ongoing sessions are worth it or a one-off review is the better fit.
Do you work with businesses outside Sussex?
Yes. I am based in Hassocks and meet businesses across Sussex face to face, but most of this work happens perfectly well over video calls and shared documents. Businesses anywhere in the UK can use the service, with in-person sessions arranged where they make sense.
Can you work alongside our existing IT provider?
Yes, and that is often where the service adds the most value. I do not replace your provider or compete with them. I sit above them on your side, set the direction, check their work against what you pay for and help you get more from the relationship. Good providers usually welcome it, because they get clearer decisions from you.
